This page is devoted to links to important information regarding organic and sustainable food production, health related topics and actions you can take to support these efforts. Find a local farm, farmer’s market, CSA (boxed produce delivery service) in your area, learn about important issues, book recommendations.

FIND A FARM OR CSA

ORGANICCONSUMERS.ORG
Find a CSA (community supported agriculture), or box produce delivery in your area here. Get informed and active about all issues relating to organic farming and issues related to the environment. One of the best sites I’ve found for a broad range of issues.

FARMERSMARKETS.NET
Find a farmers market near you.

EATWELLGUIDE.ORG
Type in your zip code to find local farms near you

RECOMMENDED FARMS, MARKETS OR PRODUCERS
Find grass-fed animal products raised without antibiotics and other harmful agents and cared for humanely here. I will be updating this section soon.

Ferry Building Farmers Market
Many vendors there carry grass- fed animal products or other local farmers’ produce. An entire listing is on their web site of what farmers go to that location.

Boulettes’ Larder
This beautiful store/restuarant is at the Ferry building. Products you can find there include; quality lard, duck fat, duck confit, and a real meal.

Marin Sun Farms
They have real free-range, naturally raised chicken eggs when you get to the market early enough. They also have 100% grass-fed beef products and I think lamb sometimes. Dave is local and one of the few offering 100% grass-fed locally, so I really like to support him.

Prather Ranch
Has real pork products that are humanely raised, as well as lamb, beef, duck and I believe I have seen chicken there too. They buy meats from ranchers in the Pacific North West and elsewhere fllowing organic practices, but I do beleive their animals are grain fed the last few months, and not 100% grass-fed. However, they are never given antibiotics and are fed 100% organic feed.

Fully Belly Farms

Eatwell Farm
Offers real free-range, naturally raised chicken eggs to those with CSA memberships with them.

INFORMATION ABOUT FOOD, HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT

The Miracle of Vitamin D
About vitamin D. This article is a must read if you are depressed, have experienced an inability to lose weight, metabolic syndrome, are sick often, have chronic fatigue, severe PMS, infertility, PCOS and many other issues. I have direct experience with this issue as I have now corrected my severe D deficiency. I recommend a specific tanning salon in San Francisco, and a very specific supplement protocol tailored to the individual to recover health with tanning, food sources, and supplements.

Letter to Vegetarians, by Jim Earles
To learn why I do not recommend a vegan or raw diet, and only a very specific vegetarian diet, when recommended at all (with range eggs, raw dairy and no soy) please refer to this article. I think the reason that many people feel better when beginning a vegan, raw or vegetarian diet is because they have often eliminated many processed foods, or begun to think about what they are eating in general and are avoiding lower quality foods, switching to eating more vegetables, etc. For those coming off of the “Standard American Diet, i.e., SAD, it is a good start to beginning to think about what we eat. The raw diet specifically can give some a feeling of elation at first I think because of the almost complete elimination of allergenic grains and dairy. Over time, many feel deficient because the diet for vegan and raw is extremely deficient, and for most vegetarians it is deficient as well. To learn why I say
this I have recommended several great books under “Resources”, and the web site below is filled with excellent information.

The letter listed on this link is helpful at understanding this perspective:

TRUEFOODNOW.ORG
The grassroots network that lists actions to take from the Center for Food Safety. Focused on genetically engineered food actions. Did you know that the EU has completely banned all GMO products and their usage? Major corporations do not use GMO products to sell their products in Europe, but DO use them for sale in the US, all because our government (the FDA and EPA), have allowed this without any testing on them at all. Please learn about this issue today and what you can do.

THEFUTUREOFFOOD.COM
This is an excellent documentary from Deborah Koons-Garcia with information about GMO farming and what you can do about this issue. GMO cross-contamination into other crops, for example, organic crops, is a serious threat to our right to non-GMO, and healthful produce.

ALAW.ORG
This is the site for the American Lung Association. Great information about controlling both indoor and outdoor exposure to allergens, pollution and toxins. They have a ‘greencleaning’ alternative to chemical cleaning products that gives recipes and instructions on how to make your own ‘green’ household cleaning products in a brochure you can download.

CLIMATECRISIS.ORG
This is the site for Al Gore’s film on global warming, ‘An Inconvenient Truth”. There is an action list of things we can all do right now, today to help to stop global warming, things like switching to low energy light bulbs, and shopping organic and locally!

CARBONFUND.ORG
What is your carbon ‘footprint’? What can you do as an individual, as a family, to have a lighter impact on carbon emissions? Find out here. Don’t believe in global climate change? Even President Bush admits to it now, as mentioned in his state of the union address… get on board! Make a difference today.

ENVIRONMENTALDEFENSE.ORG
Take action on several important environmental issues of the day here. NRDC.ORG Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s site, Natural Resource Defense Council. Very informative, with many actions to take. He informs the public about environmental hazards of chemicals and toxins in the environment, amongst other things. Mercury in our waterways is a big issue he has taken up.

PUBMED.GOV
For Article: “A single nutrition counseling session with a registered dietitian improves short-term clinical outcomes for rural Kentucky patients with chronic diseases.”

COMMONDREAMS.ORG
Why should you buy locally? How many miles does your food travel to get to your table?

FLUORIDEACTION.ORG
Please visit this web site to find out the ugly truth about fluoride in our water supply. Did you know that fluoride was used previously by the medical profession for hyperthyroidism to slow thyroid function? Could it be why we see such a huge number of people becoming hypothyroid today? At the very least, fluoridation of the water supply is mass medication without consent. Find out more at the link above. Sign the petition, take action.

UCSUSA.ORG
Union of Concerned Scientists web site. For tips on how to be green in terms of daily decisions we all make, visit the web site.

MOUTHREVOLUTION.COM
Very cute, funny and informational site, kind of in the same style as The Meatrix. (themeatrix.com)

Few will have the greatness to bend history itself; but each of us can work to change a small portion of events, and in the total of all those acts will be written the history of this generation.
