My Story- See If You Can Relate
I
had a love-hate relationship with food. You could even say that I was
in an abusive relationship with the stuff. One minute I would be in
heaven eating the best meal in the world but then the next minute
hating myself for, well, eating at all.
Had
I eaten too much?
Had
I eaten "wrong" or "bad" foods?
Should
I be eating a vegan, vegetarian, raw or another diet?
Maybe
the Atkins or South Beach?
How
much fat, protein and carbohydrate should I eat and which kinds?
Which
diet was right?
It
was enough to make me crazy, and feel guilty all the time with food.
I
would also work out like crazy.
I
used to think that if I couldn't do a 2 hour run, even when I was
already in pain from the previous day's work out and feeling
exhausted, I hadn't done enough of a work out!
I
actually feel sick to my stomach just thinking about it now. I made
myself sick then too. Literally.
I
often hated my body because it didn't conform to an image I believed
I had to be. Even at my lowest weight I thought I was fat. I had to
ask myself-
What
good is becoming thin if I won't love myself or be happy at ANY
weight?
I
also struggled with sticking to my goals. I'd eat when I really
didn't want to be...
Nothing
really changed because I kept trying the same things over and over.
I
didn't know then what I know now.
The
years rolled by and as I continued to try different diets and work
out like crazy, I'd have periods of giving up that would last a year
or two here or there where I'd gain 10 to 15 pounds and say screw it.
It's all BS. I may as well go wild and eat all I want and not
exercise at all!
I
would also just feel deprived, like why do I have to work so hard at
this? I just want to go out and eat whatever I want and do what I
want!
But
then I'd be back in the same place where I started- begging to feel
good. And most of all wanting it to feel easier to be at a healthy
weight.
Damn
those skinny friends who never had this problem! They didn't even
seem to have to work out. How irritating!
We
all know a few.
Guess
what their secret is?
It
isn't a secret! They are doing exactly what you see them doing.
Nothing.
Ok,
well maybe not nothing. But close. THAT IS THE POINT.
They
aren't destroying their metabolism by NOT eating, or eating too
little, or working out so hard they almost kill themselves, and they
don't seem to suffer from severe self-criticism.
Unfair?
Well at first glance it seems to be.
But
when you peel away the layers you realize that you can be like them.
It
really is possible to do less, eat more and feel better, sexier,
healthier, and more energized WITHOUT dieting!
For
many years I was a sought after professional chef to high profile
celebrities who LOVED me, and I also became a sought after
nutritionist. From this experience I started to feel better.
I
had finally cured my food obsession and knew what to eat to feel
satisfied while not feeling guilty about it. Plus, many of my health
issues cleared up.
But
some issues still remained.
I
still overate at certain times and struggled with self- esteem and my
